What Does an Engine Water Pump Do?
The engine water pump keeps coolant circulating through the engine block, hoses and radiator. Coolant absorbs combustion heat and releases it in the radiator, so a healthy pump prevents engine overheating and protects the cylinder head and gaskets.
Signs the Water Pump Needs Replacing
- Engine overheating: the temperature gauge keeps rising or the high-temperature warning comes on.
- Coolant leaks: coolant puddles or deposits near the pump or its weep hole usually point to a worn shaft seal or gasket.
- Noise or shaft play: whining, grinding or a wobbling pulley can indicate a worn bearing.
- Dropping coolant level: if the system keeps losing coolant after refills, check the pump for a hidden leak.
If you notice any of these signs, inspect the pump promptly, because running an overheating engine can cause expensive damage.
How to Order and Install the 2W-8002 Engine Water Pump
- Confirm your machine model, engine model and the part number on your existing water pump before ordering.
- Send a photo of the machine or engine nameplate if you are not sure; LIONKITS will confirm fitment for you.
- After installation, refill the coolant, run the engine to operating temperature, check for leaks and recheck the coolant level once it has cooled.
- Inspect the drive belt tension and the coolant condition at the same time, because dirty coolant and over-tight belts shorten pump life.
